Each Migrant & Seasonal Head Start Program can help make a difference. Through your local efforts, the National Migrant Seasonal & Head Start Association (NMSHSA) can ensure the voices of thousands of migrant children and their families are heard in Washington DC.
What is the Campaña para nuestros niños?
NMSHSA has a goal to increase unrestricted funds. We have established a goal to raise $1 for every child enrolled in a Migrant/Seasonal Head Start program. We have the potential to raise at least $37,000.00. The funds raised will be specifically designated to support our advocacy efforts in Washington DC. These unrestricted funds provide NMSHSA an opportunity to maintain visibility about issues impacting Migrant/Seasonal Head Start programs, impact policy and influence legislation. Our annual goal is $15,000.00.
NMSHSA is advocating and monitoring:
- Increasing the set-aside for Migrant Programs
- The current concerns related to Teacher Qualifications
- The current concerns related to Re-Competition of grantees
- Upcoming Reauthorization
NMSHSA works very closely with both the NHSA and the NIHSDA to align our voices in the spirit of unification.
What can you do to help make Campaña para nuestros niños a success in your community?
Migrant Head Start employees can contribute with a voluntary payroll deduction through their Human Resource Department.
Program families can collect personal donations at parent meetings and other events sponsored for families. Invite friends, community partners, growers, and families to contribute. No amount is too small! Organize a fundraising event. Local programs have raised money through sporting events such as walk-a-thons, dance-offs, and bowling contests; special events like fairs, bake sales, and raffles; and the sale of promotional items like buttons, stickers, and pins. Each activity made it possible to make a contribution to the campaign. Again, no amount is too small.
