Internship

Reflecting on my NMSHSA internship in Washington, D.C., I am grateful. From meaningful conversations at Unidos US to memorable team dinners, biking around the National Mall, and embracing every opportunity—this summer has been transformative.

In this internship, my goal was to make connections and build relationships. Working at the Child Labor Coalition, Reid Maki has been someone I can call a mentor. Having him as a mentor has helped me get a deeper understanding of my career.

Lionor Galindo, a United Farm Workers Policy Coordinator and 2015 NMSHSA Internship alumna, has been an outstanding mentor .  My experience in policy is something I will take back to college and showcase as I work toward earning my Political Science degree.

Melina Kiper at UnidosUS: My guiding light in education policy. From day one, her mentorship has shaped my skills in analysis, project planning, and communication. Grateful for her leadership and friendship!

To me, freedom means being able to express myself and pursue my dreams. I dedicate my freedom to my parents because of all the hardships and sacrifices that they did to ensure I had every opportunity they did not have growing up.
