Ohtli Award

The Ohtli award is administered by the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and it is given annually by individual consulates, since 1996.

The award consists of a medallion, silver rosette and a diploma. The medal depicts an Aztec god cutting grass with a machete. The name “Ohtli” is a Nahuatl word which means “path”, alluding to the idea of opening a path for others. The Ohtli Award recognizes individuals who have aided, empowered, or positively affected the lives of Mexican nationals in the United States and other countries. Cleofas Rodriguez, former Executive Director of the National Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association, was awarded the Ohtli on May 5, 2017.
