Clint Mitcham Scholarship Award

The National Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association is pleased to announce the availability of a $ 1,000 scholarship to individuals who have a minimum of three completed seasons of experience working with a Migrant and Seasonal Head Start (MSHS) program and is pursuing a degree in education, child development, social services, or related field.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must:

  • Have a minimum of three (3) complete seasons of experience in a Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program
  • Be recommended by him/her immediate supervisor
  • Have a clearly defined educational goal that will result in being better prepared to work in a MSHS program
  • Plan on continuing to work with MSHS program after they have received the Clint Mitcham Scholarship Award
  • Be pursuing a degree in education, child development, social services, or related field
  • Be current on NMSHSA individual membership dues (if applicable) and/or applicant’s MSHS program must be current on NMSHSA agency membership dues

Selection Criteria

Judges will rate specific, not subjective, information about:

  • Staff educational goal: 10 points
  • Prior experience in MSHS: 10 points
  • Prior education, qualifications, and credentials: 10 points
  • Personal statement that describes the staff commitment to helping children and families: 20 points
  • Essay explaining the importance of operating a comprehensive MSHS program and the effects it has on the lives of children and families: 35 points
  • Recent academic challenge the staff faced and the description of how he/she overcame it: 15 points

Required Documentation

In addition to complete the Clint Mitcham Scholarship Award Application, it is required to upload the following documentation to the application, or send it by mail or attached to an email:

  • Letter of recommendation from the current supervisor
  • Copies of degrees, certificates, and/or credentials
  • Transcripts to support educational goal statement (or class schedule if attending the first semester)

Application Deadline

The complete nomination form and required documentation must be received by NMSHSA management on or before December 20, 2024, 5 pm ET.
