Remote Work

Week one… is completed and it was quite an experience. I started off Monday with a staff meeting and I introduced myself to the Child Labor Coalition staff. I loved it, everyone was so welcoming and nice, and I am looking forward to interacting and working with them. The next day, I had a one-on-one meeting with Reid where we talked about what I would be doing and then received my first tasks. First, I was told to research six senators and create one-pagers of each one based on what committees they are involved in, what they believe in or what their work has been mainly focused on, their progressive rating, and what they did before being sworn into the senate. I also will retweet Child Labor Coalition posts and I will keep up with information posted by the coalition members. I will also be providing Reid with a document that has my story which includes: my agricultural experience, my feelings about moving schools growing up, and what I liked and disliked during my agricultural experiences growing up.

Honestly, the week has been busy but I’m glad I’m working alongside Reid. He has been so informative about other child labor issues I am not aware of or that are not shown in the media. One recent issue I have read about was a dismissed lawsuit that involved child labor on cocoa farms associated with well-known companies like Nestle and Hershey. I was in shock and did not know how cocoa beans were harvested so I also did my own research and looked up a video on YouTube. It is very intensive with heavy lifting and working with sharp tools. This article sparked my interest in researching and educating myself more about other forms of child labor. I am looking forward to seeing what I will be doing with Reid in the next few weeks.
